He claimed he read 48 books of biochemistry, genetic cell, physiology, and embryology in three nights and he got only three questions wrong in a test which puts him in the 99th percentile in the world. He started reading the theory of relativity at the age of eight, by the age of eleven, he had college reading, and then by the age of 17 he went to college to study biology at the New York State University, Binghamton. So he spent a lot of time reading and he chose well. However, he found a safe place which was the library. He answered that he lived in the projects in Brooklyn, which was not a great place to live because there were a lot of gangs. In an interview with Michael Frank, Howard was asked how he went from being a leader to a speed reader to the world's fastest reader. Howard Berg is the world's fastest reader who earned a place in the 1990 Guinness book of world records, the record which has not been broken till date and can read up to 25,000 words a minute which is equivalent to 80 pages a minute.
